It’s no secret that MSC has been on track for a while now to introduce a new class of ships in 2018, most likely the Seaside EVO. In the meantime, the line has been taking names for its new ships, as evidenced by the naming ceremony held last week on the MSC Seaside. The ship will be the fifth in the MSC Seaside fleet to be named after a seaside city, and the fourth to be named after an Italian city. The ship will sail under the Italian flag.
MSC Cruises, the largest cruise line in the world, has officially announced the titles of the first two of its new hybrid/electric ships. The first of the two new ships will be the MSC Seaside, which means “with sea in mind”. The Seaside will launch in November 2017, and it will offer guests an opportunity to experience the thrilling sea life and the breathtaking views of the Canary Islands. The Seaside will cruise for up to 13 days and will be able to accommodate up to 2,600 guests in 564 cabins, including suites. The cruise line held its traditional keel laying ceremony today at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

Seascape will be the second ship of the Seaside EVO class after MSC Seashore. The first two ships of the Seaside class ? MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview.
The theme of the class’ name – Sea – is a tribute to the beauty of the ocean and the views guests can enjoy aboard the ships. They are specifically designed to bring passengers closer to the ocean with a variety of outdoor spaces and areas.
Monica Somma, Category Manager Retail at MSC Cruises, and Jolette Vincenzi, Production Supervisor at Fincantieri, were the godmothers at the handover ceremony of the nautical items. The couple placed two coins in the keel of the ship as a historical sign of blessing and good luck for the construction of the ship and its future life at sea.

Speaking on the occasion, Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises, said: The coins we are placing today to commemorate a milestone in the construction of one of our ships are an important symbol of our confidence in the cruise industry and in the future of travel and tourism.
When she joins our fleet, MSC Seascape will have a significant economic impact, not only on the shipbuilding industry and the whole supply chain, but also on all the ports and destinations she will call at, enhancing coastal tourism and supporting the vital economic recovery of local communities.

Like her sister ship Seashore, MSC Seascape is an evolution of the Seaside class. The Seaside EVO ships have been upgraded and enriched with many new features, spaces and passenger experiences.

The ship, which has a gross tonnage of 169,400 and nearly 140,000 square feet of space, will be launched in November 2024.
